ETS Holiday Train runs December 20 on the Capital Line

Edmonton Transit Service invites Edmontonians to come see the LRT Holiday Train, running on the Capital Line on December 20! ETS’ historic General Electric 1946 Locomotive will be decorated for the season and playing music for everyone to enjoy, making stops at Clareview, Stadium, Central, Corona and Southgate LRT Stations throughout the evening. This is a free, all-ages event. There is no need to purchase a transit ticket.

Note that the LRT Holiday Train will not be transporting riders.

When not spreading holiday cheer, this locomotive is used as a general work vehicle for ETS, hauling heavy equipment and LRT cars in need of repair back to the garage. Don’t miss your chance to see a piece of ETS’ history and operations.

ETS will also be collecting winter clothing and financial donations for the United Way along the route. Donate winter wear items such as hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, socks, etc., or make a financial donation via cash, credit or debit card.

Join us for an unforgettable evening of holiday fun! The first stop will be at Clareview at 5:15pm. Full schedule below:

Arc Tap to Pay

Transit just got easier! Tap to Pay with a physical or digital credit or debit card.

Beginning December 8, transit riders across the Edmonton region (Edmonton, Beaumont, Fort Saskatchewan, Spruce Grove, St. Albert, and Strathcona County) have the option to pay for their fare by using a physical or digital credit or debit card.

Riders can now pay using:

Mastercard credit and debit
Visa credit and debit
Interac Debit
American Express
Google Wallet
Apple Pay
Samsung Wallet

Arc cards and tickets, as well as cash fare on buses will all continue to be accepted as valid fare payment.

The new fare options will be available in all regions using Arc, providing a more convenient and flexible way to pay for and take transit. Riders are not required to set up an account to use their physical or digital credit or debit card and can conveniently tap on and off transit without needing to load an Arc card, or carry exact change or paper tickets and passes.

When riders use the same payment method every time, they will benefit from daily and monthly standard adult fare caps. Physical and digital versions of the same card are considered to be two different cards, and will have separate fare caps—so riders should pick one fare payment method and use it consistently.

Tapping to pay with a physical or digital credit or debit card will also be available to those with “fare concessions,” or discounted fares—including seniors, youth and individuals experiencing low income—but will require them to apply the concession to their account at myArc.ca.

Get discounted lift tickets at Edmonton Ski Club with Arc!

For the 2025-26 season, ETS and Edmonton Ski Club have partnered to bring a 20% discount on lift tickets to Arc card holders! Simply show your Arc card or ticket and start saving.

Getting there is easy. Park for free at Davies Station, grab your gear and hop on the LRT to get to the Edmonton Ski Club via Muttart Stop. Please note: skis and snowboards are allowed on the LRT but please ensure your equipment is not disrupting other riders.

Not a skier or snowboarder? Edmonton Ski Club has fun activities for the whole family, like snow tubing and nature luge.

Discontinuation of ETS Paper Tickets/Family Passes

Paper tickets with an expiry date of December 31, 2023, and Family/Day passes with an expiry date of 2024, will not be accepted as valid fare on ETS in 2026.

Transit riders can pay with Arc cards and tickets. Cash fare and paper transfers continue to be accepted on ETS buses. For more information on valid fares, visit Fares.

ETS Holiday Lights Tour Sold Out

ETS Holiday Lights Tours returns on December 12 and 14!

Tickets for the ETS Holiday Lights Tours are now sold out.

For guests with tickets, tours will start at 6pm, 6:15pm, 6:30pm and 6:45pm each day.

What to expect

Tours will start at 6pm, 6:15pm, 6:30pm and 6:45pm each day. The tour is approximately two hours, and is subject to weather and/or road conditions. Tours depart from the west side of City Hall (northbound on 100 Street NW).

Guests can wait inside the west entrance of City Hall (near the Hallway Cafe) to check in, stay warm and use the Hallway Cafe washrooms.Tours include a stop at the Alberta Legislature where there will be a layover before the bus departs for Candy Cane Lane.

The bus will return guests to Churchill Square and City Hall at the end of the tour.
