Valley Line West is a 14 km LRT extension from downtown to Lewis Farms. Marigold Infrastructure Partners is the contractor building the extension. Construction is anticipated to be complete in 2028, followed by testing before the line can open.

Project Update - April 2026

Valley Line West LRT construction continues along the majority of the alignment in 2026. Some of the most impactful work for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians is along 102 Avenue in downtown and along 87 Avenue in west Edmonton, where major roadwork is taking place this year.

102 Avenue

Construction has led to the temporary full closure of 102 Avenue to vehicle traffic between 107 Street and 102 Street for the entire 2026 construction season. The work on 102 Avenue will happen in multiple phases. Phase 1 started on March 16, 2026.

  • Phase 1 is expected to last until early August (approximately 20 weeks). During Phase 1, north/south traffic across 102 Avenue will be maintained only on 105 Street. Phase 1 details can be found in Marigold Infrastructure Partners' construction notice.
  • Pedestrian access will be maintained, but detours will be in place. The bike lanes along 102 Avenue were temporarily relocated to 103 Avenue in November 2025. Find updated pedestrian wayfinding.

87 Avenue

Road construction along 87 Avenue resumed this spring as part of the Valley Line West LRT. Drivers and pedestrians can expect changing traffic patterns and lane reductions throughout the 2026 construction season as crews continue rebuilding the corridor in west Edmonton.

  • In late April, lane reductions and traffic shifts began between 159 Street and Anthony Henday Drive.
  • Work started at:
  • 87 Avenue will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 161 Street and Anthony Henday Drive throughout staged construction activities until the end of 2026.
  • Work will happen in stages, with traffic patterns changing throughout the year. See the Current Construction Notices (Area 6).
  • Major roadway construction in the area is anticipated to be substantially complete by the end of 2026, bringing the corridor closer to its final permanent traffic configuration.
