Limelight Film Showcase

This year’s Limelight Film Showcase was a tremendous success, with over 400 film viewers attending the free event on Saturday October 15th and Tuesday Oct, 18, 2011.

Highlighting the concept of disability in films from around the world, Limelight 2011 hosted films that ranged from two minutes to two hours, which included documentaries, dramas and comedies, with some even written, directed and/or performed by people with various abilities.

We would like to thank the Whitemud Crossing Public Library for opening their doors the first day, where we showcased Temple Grandin, an award winning film.  Following our premiere, iDANCE, an integrated dance program for individuals with and without impairments, opened on Tuesday October 18th with some amazing dance numbers. Many thanks to the 120 Physical Education and Recreation University students who attended the performance as a part of their class!

Throughout Limelight 2011, many laughs were shared thanks to such films as “The Kings Speech” and “Leave them Laughing,” while thought provoking discussions were also had after the film “Soccermen,”  thanks to our special guests Quentin Ranson and Joseph Largao. Tuesday’s performance ended with a bang as Luca “Lazylegz” and Bboy Redo asked audience members to join them on stage in a cypher (break dancing circle).

Fresh, dynamic, creative and empowering; Limelight 2011 was definitely a huge success. Thank you all for coming out. See you again Fall, 2012!
