Don’t Get Left Out of the Cold!

Let’s make Edmonton one of the best winter cities in the world. Come to our WinterCity Strategy Kick-Off Party, and tell us what would make you fall in love with winter in Edmonton. To thaw our creative juices, the City has invited John Furlong, CEO of the Vancouver Olympic Organizing Committee, to share his expertise on community engagement.

7pm: Addresses by John Furlong, CEO Vancouver Organizing Committee, and City Councillor Ben Henderson

John Furlong created the vision and led the team that bid for, organized and staged the highly successful Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. He is one of the longest serving leaders in Olympic history.

WinterCity Strategy

Edmonton is already home to many winter festivals and activities, but we can do more to transform our city into a leading winter city. To do this, the City is developing a WinterCity Strategy which will:

• Encourage discussion and feedback from all Edmontonians on a winter city life.
• Promote the City of Edmonton’s wintertime programs, services and experiences.
• Identify and evaluate the challenges and opportunities of developing a sustainable and resilient winter city.
• Suggest policy directions for Edmontonians and City Council to consider as a part of a ten-year WinterCity Strategy and Implementation Plan.
