Cromdale Liquor Store’s Business Hours Reduced
March 21, 2011
The City of Edmonton has placed a condition on the business licence for Cromdale Liquor Store, located at 11723 – 82 Street.
The hours of operation of the store have been restricted from 10am to midnight, seven days a week.
A reduction in hours was recommended to the City’s Chief Licensing Officer by the Edmonton Police Service in an effort to stop the ongoing late-night violence and disturbances in and around the store. The recommendation included numerous letters of support from community groups.
In his written decision, Chief Licensing Officer Randy Kirillo writes that “It is the continued late night criminal activities, the continued pull on police resources and the testament of the community that provide the reasonable grounds to form the opinion that it is in the public interest to restrict the hours of operation of the Cromdale Liquor Store.”
The owners of the store can appeal the condition to the Community Standards and Licence Appeal Committee. An appeal has to be filed within 14 days of the Chief Licensing Officer’s decision.
The City will not be commenting further on this decision.
