Hundreds of residents affected by Strathmore Manor fire
October 03, 2011
A fire that spread through a south side apartment building Saturday afternoon was caused by smokers' materials on an exterior balcony.
The fire at Strathmore Manor, at 29 Avenue and 109 Street, displaced approximately 220 residents and caused $5 million in damages.
The fire began on the exterior of the building at around 3 p.m. Saturday and quickly spread from balcony to balcony before spreading into the apartment suites. Thirteen fire units responded and had the fire under control in approximately two and a half hours. Eight suites were fire damaged and there was significant water and smoke damage in other parts of the building.
Residents are being asked to contact Capital Management at 780-428-6511 for information regarding when they can return to their suites.
