Lift With Your Wings Not With Your Back
March 01, 2011
Spring officially arrives in a few weeks, but it’s too early to pack away that snow shovel just yet! Active Edmonton wants to remind you that there is a right and a wrong way to tackle that snow. View video on proper techniques for snow shoveling.
To avoid injuring your back when shovelling snow:
- Stretch first – shovelling IS a physical activity.
- If possible, use a light, ergonomic shovel.
- Bend at the knees, push the snow and then lift with your legs.
Remember to reach out and lend a helping hand in your community by shovelling the sidewalk of a neighbour who may be unable to do so, especially a senior or a person with physical disability. Also, if you have been helped by a neighbour, nominate them as a Snow Angel for a chance to be recognized at a City of Edmonton celebration in the spring.
