Tots Take Over Terwillegar
September 02, 2011
Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre is proud to host Edmonton Catholic School Board’s Early Learning program
The halls of Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre were filled with the voices of tots on September 1 as students started their first day of preschool. The City of Edmonton and Edmonton Catholic Schools have teamed up to offer the 100 Voices Pre-Kindergarten program at the southside rec centre.
The 100 Voices program is an Edmonton Catholic Schools early learning program for children three to four years old. Morning and afternoon classes will be offered at the centre during the regular school year. This is the first time this program has been offered outside a traditional school setting and is a part of the Edmonton Catholic Schools goal to bring early education closer to home and community.
“This is an incredible opportunity to engage entire families into lifelong healthy recreation,” said Rob Smyth, Branch Manager, Community Facility Services. “We are delighted to have the 100 Voices program in our facility and look forward to building on this partnership with Edmonton Catholic Schools.”
“In Early Learning we are constantly challenging ourselves to create natural learning environments and build these where children and families already are,” said Corine Gannon, District Principal with Early Learning, Edmonton Catholic Schools. “With this partnership, Edmonton Catholic Schools is able to utilize this facility that is rich with opportunities for active and creative learning experiences that enhance the growth of children as they explore their world and build connections to their community.”
The City of Edmonton plans to offer the 100 Voices program at its new multi-purpose recreation centre facilities, continuing the vision of creating active community hubs.
