The City of Edmonton Youth Council (CEYC)

Mandate: will be to provide information and advice to Council in relation to issues involving or affecting youth and CEYC performs the following functions:

Educates youth on city governance, procedures and policy making,
Promotes initiatives to support the well-being of youth,
Coordinates community events that profile youth issues,
Develops (and maintains) relationships with those addressing issues of concern to youth,
Researches and writes policy proposals,
Provides networking opportunities for youth, and
Oversees the CEYC General Assembly.

City of Edmonton Youth Council (CEYC) Recruitment

Edmonton City Council values the diverse voices of citizens in local governance and commits to appointing individuals who are reflective of the population of the City and who have been recruited through a fair, equitable and inclusive process.

Applications are accepted for the CEYC using the Taleo Online Application System or a Web-Based Application Form. Applicants must complete the application and attach a reference letter from someone that can verify your suitability for the CEYC, by the deadline.

Shortlisted applicants will be:

Contacted by City Administration to schedule your interview with the CEYC Selection Committee.
Asked to complete a Public Biography Request Form. If appointed as a CEYC Member, the biography will be included in the City Council minutes.

Appointment terms are for 2 years and are renewable for a maximum of 8 years as long as eligibility criteria are met.

How much time does it take?

The time commitment varies depending on the board. Most boards have monthly meetings plus subcommittee meetings, and may have additional board-related activities throughout the year.

Will I be compensated for my time?

New Council Policy C628A Honoraria and Expenses for City Agencies, and Procedure: Honoraria and Expenses for City Agencies.

This policy applies to Council-appointed members, who are not Members of Council, of all advisory committees, ad hoc committees and task forces, and the following decision-making bodies:

Edmonton Combative Sports Commission
Edmonton Salutes Committee
Naming Committee

(Members may opt out of receiving an honoraria if they choose).
