ETS, Partners "Here to Help" Students Head Back to School
As students head back to the classroom, the annual Here to Help campaign returns to help get them there safely.
From September 1-18, ETS and its partner agencies will help new and returning transit riders navigate the system with an increased presence on transit properties and through education and outreach. Check out the Back-to-School Toolkit for transit safety tips.
During peak weekday hours (7-9 am and 3-5 pm), Transit Peace Officers will be present at 10 key locations across the city, including LRT stations and transit centres.
To connect with new riders, ETS staff are also participating in new student orientation events at MacEwan University, NorQuest University, the University of Alberta, NAIT, Concordia University and King’s University throughout the month. Visit them for help with trip planning and more!
ETS provides safety resources to help support riders year round. Emergency strips located above windows on the LRT alert the operator.
The ETS Control Centre monitors over 1,000 cameras in transit spaces. Riders can connect to the ETS Control Centre by using a blue emergency phone or red emergency button. They can also call or text Transit Watch 24/7 to report non-emergency safety concerns like harassment, disorder or suspicious behaviour.
Riders are encouraged to save the Transit Watch number (780-442-4900) in their phones. Emergencies should always be reported immediately to 911.
