Do you have more garbage than your garbage cart can take? Keep it until your next collection day, or drop it off at an Eco Station or Big Bin Event. If this happens often, make sure you're sorting your waste. Most households looking for excess waste collection already have enough space when recycling and food scraps are separated.
Very large households (7+ people) and those that create home healthcare waste can apply for the Excess Garbage Cart Program. Apartment and condo utility ratepayers can enroll in Extra Collection By Request or Ongoing Extra Collection, depending on their building’s needs.
Residents can drop off 2 bags of garbage at an Eco Station per day for free. Garbage must be in residential-size bags (75L or similar volume). No recycling, food scraps or yard waste can be mixed in, or a fee will apply. Large renovation materials, such as toilets, cabinets and concrete, will be subject to a fee. Eco Stations accept larger volumes of garbage for a fee.
Residents can drop off excess garbage at Big Bin Events for free.
Big Bin events happen throughout the city on select weekends in spring, summer and fall.
Very large households, and those that create home healthcare waste, can apply for an excess (360 L) garbage cart.
To be eligible, your household must meet one of the following criteria:
Properties participating in the Secondary Suite Cart Sharing program are not eligible for the excess (360 L) garbage cart program.
The excess cart holds approximately 6-9 garbage bags.
Cost: $52.63 per month, which is $10 more per month than the large (240 L) garbage cart.
The apartment and condo Excess Waste Program (EWP) can help properties manage waste volumes as residents adjust to sorting waste, or at higher times of waste disposal.
