Invasive species are the second biggest threat to biodiversity after habitat loss. The City jointly relies on Edmonton residents to Spot, Report and Remove invasive species within our City. We are grateful for the hundreds of volunteers that have joined together to stop the spread of invasive plants, and protect Edmonton's biodiversity.

What do I need to bring to a Volunteer Weed Pull?

We ask that you please wear weather-appropriate clothing and long pants. All volunteers are required to wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes. If proper footwear is not worn, volunteers will be unable to participate.

Please bring a water bottle.

Gloves, tools and light refreshments will be provided to volunteers.

Can I join a Volunteer Weed Pull to fulfill Community Service Hours?

Yes, our staff are able to verify your attendance at our volunteer events.

Is there an age requirement for participation?

We ask that minors 14 years of age and under be accompanied by an adult (over 18). All ages are welcome.

What are the physical requirements of participating?

The fitness level for weed pulling is from beginner to moderate. Weed pulling is physical and does involve walking, kneeling, bending down and digging with a shovel. The terrain may be flat or sloped, depending on the area. However, we encourage volunteers to take regular breaks and work at their own pace. Detailed site information is shared for each event on Better Impact. You are welcome to connect with us for more information prior to registering, as well.

Invasive Plant Outreach aims to be accessible in any way we can so please reach out if you require accommodations or have ideas for how our events can be more inclusive.

Do I need to know plant identification to participate?

Not at all! Our staff are very knowledgeable and will teach you everything you need to know about plant identification and removal.
