Grant Program Update

The City’s 2021 Edmonton Economic Incentive Construction Grant was created to incentivize and stimulate high-impact private construction projects in the Centre City area. The City budgeted $22.9 million for this grant program. The grant was to support shovel-ready projects of at least 50 units. Construction had to begin before March 31, 2022. Applications are now closed.

Nine active participants and one inactive participant are currently in the program. Participants receive grant payments equivalent to their current municipal property tax minus their base (2021) municipal property tax.

As of spring 2025, the completed buildings are

  • Abbey Park
  • Edward Block
  • Falcon Tower
  • Hat on 122
  • Mercury Block
  • The Parks
  • The Switch
  • Sync111
  • Peak Residences

The Edmonton Economic Incentive Construction Grant Program incentivized nine projects worth $522 million to construction. For every dollar that the City funded, private investment contributed $23 dollars. The amount of City funding allocated for this grant was $22.9 million. The total amount used will not be known until the program ends in 2026, but it is on track to come in under budget.

This includes the creation of approximately 4000 construction jobs, 2,200 residential units and 63,000 square feet of commercial space in and adjacent to downtown.*

This successful incentive program will end in 2026.
