To achieve safe travel conditions as quickly as possible, we must work together. Edmontonians play a key role in supporting City staff and contractors as they deliver high-quality service more efficiently.
The primary benefit of a ban is clearer roads that are easier and safer to navigate. Look for parking ban signage in your neighbourhood, sign up for notifications and follow the City's social media channels to learn when a parking ban is in effect.
There are several parking options depending on which ban is underway.
During a Major Roads Phase 1 Parking Ban, the City clears major roads, core business areas and bus routes such as busy roads like Jasper Avenue or 124 Street. A Residential and Industrial Roads Phase 2 Parking Ban is sometimes called after a Major Roads Parking Ban. These are the quieter roads, like the one in front of your house. It is dependent on many factors, such as the amount of snowfall.

Note: For each phase, parking will be allowed on roads once they are cleared. You do not have to wait for the City to end the ban before parking on a cleared road.
Find out when your neighbourhood road is scheduled for snow clearing during a Phase 2 residential parking ban.
When a Phase 2 parking ban is in effect, Edmontonians can use this tool to find out when their residential street is scheduled to be cleared. Once a user enters their address, the results will display a scheduled clearing date, a rescheduled clearing date or have no clearing scheduled at that time. Please note that not all areas will be scheduled immediately when a parking ban is called.
Vehicles in accessible parking spaces with visible accessible parking placards or vehicles permitted to be parked in accessible parking spaces will not be subject to the ban. Any vehicles parked without proper authorization in those zones will be fined.
Developers may provide parking for residents of apartment buildings and condominiums. Guests or residents with vehicles which exceed the designated number of parking lot spots will have to be parked on public roads or in private parking lots.
Alleys are completed as part of the same priority as their adjacent roadway. Alleys will be cleared during both phases of the parking ban. There will be no parking in these areas during each ban phase until they are cleared.
Snow and ice alternative parking options provide parking options for Edmontonians in select stalls or lots during Phase 2 of the citywide parking ban.
Snow and ice alternative parking options provide parking options for Edmontonians in select stalls or lots during Phase 2 of the citywide parking ban.
Approximately 115 individual stalls and 20 full lots are currently available.
Alternative parking locations include select City facilities, parks and Edmonton Public Library (EPL) locations with excess parking whose use does not impact daily operations. A full list of current locations is available on the Snow and Ice Control map. Locations will be expanded over time.
Stalls participating in this program are cleared by City of Edmonton crews (or contractors) during Phase 1 of a parking ban (these lots are a higher priority for clearing). If snowfall continues or restarts, the stalls will continue to be maintained by crews, with spot checks occurring as needed.
Parking Enforcement Paused
When stalls are in use, parking enforcement activities (warnings, tickets, tows), will be paused. This pause only applies to the marked stalls, and only for the duration that parking is restricted in the neighbourhood around the facility.
