On February 19, 2020, City Council passed the Electronic Dance Music Events Bylaw 19166, regulating large-scale electronic dance music events of 1,500 participants or more. During the development of this bylaw, the City of Edmonton met with EDM events industry experts including event producers, venue operators, harm reduction and emergency services representatives to explore approaches for regulating and enhancing safety for the public, participants, volunteers and employees at electronic dance music events in Edmonton.
Anyone interested in hosting an electronic dance music event in Edmonton, that meets the EDM events criteria outlined in the bylaw, is required to submit an EDM Event Permit Application, pay applicable permit fees and event deposit and submit the required EDM Event Control Plans.
