Karen lived in Winnipeg and Toronto before settling in Edmonton in 1998. She has been a resident of ward tastawiyiniwak with her husband for 23 years, and an active member of the community, volunteering at Kilkenny Playschool, Evansdale School, and St. John Bosco School where her three children previously attended. As a family, the Principe’s enjoy volunteering at the Edmonton Food Bank and the Edmonton Christmas Bureau. Their rescue dog, Patrick, supports volunteering efforts where he can.

Karen attended University of Manitoba, University of Winnipeg and Durham College, then began her career as a Registered Dental Hygienist in 1998. She has worked both in private practice and as an instructor at NAIT in the Dental Assisting Program, and volunteers her time at 'Free Dental Day' to offer free dental services to those in need. Karen has pursued this passion abroad in the past with a week-long dental mission in Peru being a highlight. In addition to her dental career, Karen was also a former small business owner.

Some of Karen’s interests include playing soccer, cooking for friends and family, and taking wine courses to become a sommelier.

Karen is proud to support north Edmonton’s ward tastawiyiniwak as a member of City Council and as a part of the decision making process. She looks forward to working for residents and businesses of the ward in the coming years.
