Edmonton Elections

The Province requires municipalities in Alberta to hold an election every 4 years to determine the mayor and city councillors for the next 4-year period.

The election also determines school board trustees for the Edmonton Catholic Separate School Board and Edmonton Public School Board.

2021 Edmonton Election

View the 2021 Election Results

The 2021 Edmonton Election included the senate election and a referendum vote in addition to the municipal and school board trustee election.

Voters received 2 ballots, with instructions:

Municipal and school board trustee ballot: Voters elected 1 Mayor, 1 Councillor for each of the 12 City of Edmonton wards, 1 Edmonton Catholic Schools Trustee for each of the 7 wards or 1 Edmonton Public Schools Trustee for each of the 9 wards.
Combined provincial ballot (Senate and referendum): Voters selected up to 3 senate nominees who may be appointed to the Senate of Canada to represent Alberta and voted on 2 referendum questions. For more information on the Senate Election and the referendum vote, please contact Elections Alberta.

Ward Boundaries

The ward boundaries for the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools are changing. Candidates must collect signatures from residents who live in the ward they seek to represent.

City of Edmonton Wards

Current Wards

Bylaw 15142 establishes the current ward boundaries for the City of Edmonton. The current ward maps can be found on the City of Edmonton Ward Maps page.

Changes to City of Edmonton Wards

Changes to ward boundaries and names were made through Bylaw 19366 and passed on December 7, 2020. These changes came into effect on October 18, 2021. New ward maps can be found on the City of Edmonton Ward Maps page.

Edmonton Public Schools Wards

New boundaries for the 9 Edmonton Public Schools wards (A-I) are in effect for the 2021 election.

Bylaw 2020-2 was passed by the Board of Trustees of Edmonton Public Schools on September 8, 2020. The new ward boundaries can be viewed on the Ward Map.

Edmonton Catholic Schools Wards

New boundaries for the Edmonton Catholic Schools wards 75, 76 and 77 are now in effect.

Bylaw 2020-1 was passed by the Board of Trustees of Edmonton Catholic Schools on November 25, 2020. The new ward boundaries can be viewed on the Ward Map.
