The City of Edmonton recognizes the need to provide access to safe and clean washrooms to the public.
There are a number of public washrooms available citywide, in parks and open spaces, as well as in City facilities such as transit centres, libraries, attractions and recreation centres.
Funding is available to support projects that enhance accessibility in public washrooms. Learn more about eligibility and how to apply.
Businesses, Business Improvement Areas (BIAs), and Non-Profit Organizations are invited to apply for the next round of the Public Washrooms Accessibility Grant.
The program aims to improve washroom accessibility for Edmontonians and helps offset the additional costs of providing and managing public-accessible washrooms.

Committed to being an inclusive, accessible city, Edmonton is taking a strategic approach to providing safe and clean public washrooms. The Public Washroom Strategy was informed by comprehensive community feedback, as detailed in the What We Heard Report, and by best practices identified from a scan of other jurisdictions. This approach will improve accessibility to public washrooms for all Edmontonians including vulnerable groups. These groups include those without stable housing, people with disabilities, those managing health conditions and caregivers.
Some community leagues place portable toilets in their licensed areas or neighbourhood parks. To arrange service, please contact the appropriate community league.
From the onset of the Shigella outbreak, the City of Edmonton has partnered with Alberta Health Services and local organizations to implement measures aimed at controlling the spread of the infection in the inner city.
These measures include working with our partners to improve access to hygiene items and deploying staff to both permanent and mobile washrooms. These attendants provide hand sanitizer, sanitary wipes, clean clothing, and bottled water to those using the facilities, ensuring immediate access to critical hygiene resources.
Please note, the Hygiene Hub has now ceased operations. Nearby public washrooms can be found at Kinistinâw Park, at 10249 96 Street NW, and Alberta Avenue Park, at 9210 118 Avenue NW. Both washrooms operate from 10am-9pm and close seasonally during winter.
