The Register of Candidates is a record of all candidates who have given notice to Edmonton Elections that they intend to seek nomination for office in the next election, as required by the Local Authorities Election Act.

As Edmonton Elections administers elections for Edmonton City Council, Edmonton School Division and Edmonton Catholic Separate School Division, all candidates registered to run in these jurisdictions will be listed in the Register of Candidates.

To get added to the Register of Candidates list, review how to file your notice of intent.

Frequently Asked Questions

My name is on the Register of Candidates and I didn’t submit a notice of intent—what do I do?

Only prospective candidates should submit their own notice of intent. If your name appears on the Register of Candidate and you have not submitted a notice of intent, please contact Edmonton Elections at elections@edmonton.ca immediately to have your name removed.

Is submitting a notice of intent the same as submitting nomination forms?

No. Submitting a notice of intent is one step in the process. It does not mean you are nominated and will appear on the ballot.

To become a nominated candidate and appear on the ballot, a candidate must complete the nomination process during the Nomination Period from January 1 to September 22, 2025.

Is a deposit required to file a notice of intent with Edmonton Elections?

No, a deposit is not required when filing a notice of intent.
